The elves wouldn't win because we would be able to exploit their massive egos. Besides, it takes less time to fire a gun than to cast a spell.

Hm... So are you the sole savior of the human race, or do 20 armies of elves invade the world? Actually, 20 elf armies battling it out for a new world sounds like a video game plot.

The premise of this option is that they _do_ beat us, however. So spellcasting must be better than guns in some significant way, and elven egos must not be all that big a disadvantage.
