At least with the long name, you don't need to ever in a million years worry about being confused over if you heard your name or someone was talking about you.

Fortunately it's been long enough that I wouldn't have to follow every introduction with "no, not _that_ Hitler." I suspect few people would be seriously offended once they found out I hadn't changed my name to that as part of some neo-Nazi thing.

You don't always get a chance to explain it though. People will judge you as soon as they see or hear your name - often before they ever even meet you.
