This a surprisingly compelling option. Elves in the Dwarf Fortress universe are immortal (in the unaging sense), so as long as I play it smart I'm in for a good long run. And it is quite possible for individual elves in the Dwarf Fortress universe to excel. Usually by leaving their original elf culture and joining a human or dwarven one. Google up Cacame Awemedinade sometime for the epic tale of an elf who became king of a Dwarven civilization after they conquered his home town.

As an Elf in the Dwarf Fortress universe, I intend to avoid dwarf fortresses like the plague. Especially ones that look like they're being run by a player. :)
